As you probably recall, in 2009 our small community suffered a tragic loss when Kirsten Wolcott, a junior liberal arts education major, was murdered on November 18, 2009, while serving as a student missionary in Yap, Micronesia. She was teaching second grade at the Yap Adventist School.
Kirsten was the daughter of our local dentist, Hollis Wolcott and our TJA Pre-K and Kindergarten teacher, Karen Wolcott. Karen in the daughter of the loved and legendary Dr. Neils Oster.
Kirsten was not only known for her charity and missionary work; she was also know for her love of running. She ran in several races including the Komen 5K race for the Cure, the Toys for Tots 10K Race (where she came in third place for women), and the Kinetic Sprint Tri-athalon.
In honor of Kirsten's memory, annually, we have a 5K walk/run to continue Kirsten's mission work and to raise money to offset the cost of the trip and supplies. We wish to have as many people participate as possible. Local business owners can help too. We want this to be a community event, a celebration and a continued tradition. Kirsten lost her life doing what she loved, mission work. Our goal is to honor her memory by continuing her work.
Proceeds will benefit the 2015 TJA Spring Mission trip.
Activities include: Corn hole, Face painting, Bounce house and popcorn.
